What I haven't seen any mention of how independent magazines like User
Group newsletters can easily get their publications in front of the
new and rapidly expanding iPad market. All the big names in
periodical publishing seem to developing their own stand-alone
applications, which just isn't practical for most User Groups.
Are any user groups interested in preparing their magazines/newsletter
in a format that can be easily accessed by iPad users?
Do you think the ePub format is viable for magazines, or are we better
off remaining with PDF?
What about Landscape vs Portrait? I know that many groups just
converted (or continue to convert) their print format into PDF and
thus have stuck with Portrait mode... but then other publications
(like the AppleUsers Spotlight - http://www.appleusers.org/magazine/
deliberately went with Landscape to make reading on a laptop and
traditional 1024x768 screens easier to read) The iPad supports both
easily but which do you think will be best on the iPad?
Anyone know of resources like Smashwords, but for publishing
periodicals?
What about a source for promoting our magazines to a wider audience?
Is there a central store like the iBookshop but for magazines?

I would thing that most AUGs publish their newsletters in PDF. I've
already downloaded GoodReader (free) onto my iPad for reading PDFs. I
follow our City Council meetings and all of their materials are in
PDF, so I needed a way to be able to see those documents on my iPad
when I was taking notes at a meeting. Bingo, problem solved.
