Our group dues are a bit over $100 and all the board members have to pay it. But: expenses get refunded and *extra* work is paid by the hour. (Extra work meaning stuff that's not part and parcel of being a board member. Work on projects for example that might be outsourced otherwise, like web site programming)
I absolutely do not think it would go over well if board members were being exempt. Since it's pro bono work, our members do expect the board members to do it without expecting payment of any kind. There might even be suspicions that someone just wants to have a free ride without meaning to put in serious work.

So I'm curious to hear opinions on the notion of MUG board members being free from paying group dues, as a thanks for the time they give, as well as a potential means of attracting new board members -- something we are having a very hard time with.
Do any of your groups do this?
If not, how do you think the idea would go over in your own group?
