Some folks probably already know this, but I offer it for those who don’t:
The iPad does offer VGA output with apple’s $30 adapter.
The problems are:
- What comes out the adapter is not a mirror of the ipad’s screen. Every app that you want to use must be designed to take advantage of the adapter and specifically feed a signal to it.
- Some content is locked down and not allowed out of the VGA output. This would be especially when using the iPod functions in the iPad for playback of video. The restriction may be limited to itunes-sourced content. I am not sure. But I believe I have heard some people say they have had issue with some other content as well.

Awhile back I saw people asking questions about how to present the iPad at meetings. This worked great for us.

Just as with the iPhone, if the iPad is connected to a projector, it only shows movies.
I'll be connecting to a computer with a camera, and the camera will look at the iPad.

Hi Elena-Beth --
I just had a memory pop up in my head this morning of emails to the Apple User Group Discussion a few months back.
People who headed up User Groups were saying they couldn't figure out any way to get the iPad to connect to their projectors. And nobody could come up with an answer to that.
Since you managed to demo the very, very first iPhone under less than ideal conditions -- remember that long-ago demo? -- I'm sure you'll have a great answer.
