I have been very quiet here for a very long time, just replying offlist at times, so I hope you won't mind me posting this.
Once upon a time, over the years, I was asked if I'd come speak at many a group around the US and world. I don't get to carry the MacCentral Mac Efficiency™ name any longer, and with MacAddict gone I'm no longer a Contributing Editor there, but would anyone still want me to come?
I am leaving Los Angeles in late September, going to NYC for a while. (Looking forward to MetroMac!) I may drive to NY, coming through Austin and New Orleans.
Then I'd get to Europe around December and travel Europe, hopefully into Asia again. Turkey, India...(both so changed now, I'm sure). I have no idea how far I'll get. It'll just be for up to a year and I don't want to plan far ahead.
I like the freedom of being able to go where I am invited or to a place someone local suggests. I am not a fancy hotel, eat American food, kind of traveller.
Last time I was 3 years with my backpack on the roads of the world with no plans, before before pagers, web, cell phones, when the Mac was just born.
This time I'd love to meet great Mac people everywhere I go. I want to attend MUG meeting whenever I can work it out. I'd love to have group's meeting date pattern/schedule. I
d welcome contacts for each of the groups that would welcome me as a Mac user. And if I can help out in some way by speaking at your group about Mac or Web with short-term planning, I'd love to.
This time, in addition to getting to know people and cultures, I want to discover how people use their Apple tools.
I also have to figure out what equipment to take so I can continue to build/maintain my client's websites as I travel. I'll need to learn the best temporary data plans too. (I think I will travel with an iPhone 3G (not my regular iPhone or phone number) and, if I find I can run Lion and Dreamweaver and Photoshop decently, an original Air. It will be hard to be without my beautiful unibody MacBook Pro but that's a lot to take around, especially where I stay in hostels.) I'll be continuing to do my weekly radio segments and hope I can share tips that I learn about everything.
All friendship and advice is very welcome.
~Deb
