Title: Need guidance with FileMaker to Bento conversion
Hi,
Our user group has kept its membership roster in FileMake Pro for eons. We’ve been using an old version of the app for years and years, because it kept working. Now, with 10.7 coming on the scene, we have to either [1] buy FileMaker 11 brand new (not upgrade eligible), [2] convert to Bento, or [3] convert to some other product (not sure that anything else even offers capabilities we need). We found FileMaker’s donation terms to be either unachievable for us, or not worth our time to pursue, so please don’t suggest that route.
We’re considering converting to Bento, because of the considerable cost savings over FMP. Our FMP file was setup by a member who was familiar with the app, but he’s no longer with the group. We have no one in the group who is an FMP expert. The two people in the group who know it a little bit say that they think we can’t accomplish the same thing in Bento, because of some of the report filters we use (to determine things like who is in arrears).
Since I don’t consider our needs very sophisticated, I find it hard to believe that Bento is not capable of filling the bill. If it can’t do filtering functions, it sounds like a pretty lame app. How complicated are such functions?
I’d love to find someone who is skilled in FMP and/or Bento and willing to help us out of the kindness of the heart. I really don’t think there’s much work involved, but then I’m not FMP expert, so I can’t say for sure. But we’re a group with less than 100 members that just wants to keep track of everyone, and figure out when they need to pay their dues. Not very complex.
If you can help, please email me privately. Thank you.
