05 Open Source Mac Software
I am preparing to present Open Source Software for the Macintosh
to the Tulsa Users of Macintosh Society in September. A few years
ago, September was declared Open Source Month by someone and I've
tried every two or three years to find what I can get and
tell the group about what is available.

06 Stop the Phone Books
Each year, we not only get white and yellow pages from the
local phone company, but there are several additional companies
that also produce books for the telephone market that
list addresses and phone ?.

07 iPhone 5 Battery Replacement Program
According to 9to5Mac, Apple has announced a recall of SOME
iPhone 5 batteries. They say:
units "may suddenly experience shorter battery life or need to
be charged more frequently." The iPhone 5 was originally launched in
September 2012, and Apple says that the affected units were sold
between that month and January 2013. . .

08 iOS Business Card Scanner
HandL has announced an update to its popular business card
scanning App - Contact Snapper for iOS. Contact Snapper scans business
cards and instantly turns them into a contact on the address book.
With the update, Contact Snapper is powerful than ever before, highly
intuitive and delivers break-through performance. Google Contacts is
now deeply integrated into Contact Snapper with complete fully managed
2 way sync capabilities.

09 60 Seconds: Cinemagraphs are moving pictures... the evolution of
the animated GIF
I just watched a special on BBC about an artist in Europe
producing Cinemagraphs, or as they are sometimes called "animated
gifs" ... he mispronounced the word "gif" several hundred times,
saying "gift" rather than "Jiff" . . . anyway, this is cool stuff, and
if you're graphically inclined, try it out :

10 Quotes: Opportunities and the future
Look for the opportunities in the difficulties,
not the difficulties in the opportunities."
- Victor Fiorelli
"The future is an opaque mirror.
Anyone who tries to look into it sees nothing but the
dim outlines of an old and worried face."
- Jim Bishop
"An ounce of performance is worth pounds of promises."
- Mae West
