There is a new Internet-based scam going around. I'm hearing from several users a week who have run into it. It is very scary when you encounter it. You may think that it is a "virus", but it isn't. You visit an infected Web site and your browser appears frozen and you can't escape the site. You may get a very scary message telling you that your data has been compromised, that you need to pay a ransom, or that you need to pay for technical help. Anti-virus software won't help you with this scam. I've written an article on how to deal with it:
