10 UGNN Hacked AGAIN
Last week we were hacked again by a cybercrime organization trying to get us black-listed by Google and the other online search engines. Cybercriminals do this against competing sites, or others who try to stand up to the phishing and identity theft campaigns. We had reported a series of malware attempts which were so cleverly written that none of the spam traps caught them, and there were no hints of where the attacks came from.
There were over a dozen of these attempts in the past 6 days. Fred dug into the IP addresses, and the origin of the "ad" they were trying to spoof, and tracked up stream until the originator was found. We then inserted those "clues" into the spam, and uploaded to the spam cops. Luckily they DID indeed identify the criminals, and shut down the malware site. But not without problems. We believe those same cybercriminals backtracked to us, and then planted the malicious code on the UGNN site.
In a similar hack about a month ago, we bought Site Lock. It ain't cheap. But then again, neither is rebuilding a whole web site, or trying to get your name removed from the black lists. Whew. They identified the hack almost immediately and squashed it, removing the malicious code.
