I will not pay for
ringtones for my new (used) iPhone.
I don't know who
thought this is a good idea, but its like that old joke, "You
know what burns my arse? A candle about this high!"
I will not pay for
ringtones for my new (used) iPhone.
(Please do not be
dismayed by the length of this post. Honest, its really simple.)
So I do this, instead:
First, create a
playlist in iTunes named "RingTones" or something as equally
obvious. Creativity isn't what we are going for. Name it
something you'll remember.
I know that I have
mentioned Audacity before - only maybe a gazillion times. Get it
and install it on your computer. http://www.audacityteam.org/download/
Here's an important
point to remember. I don't care what audio manipulation
application you use. I just want you to open a song from your
iTunes library. Something that has a 10 to 30 second musical
phrase that you like.
For example, the first
15 seconds of Good Morning ~ https://youtu.be/JkCpbIoZDEs This might make a great
wake up tone for the CLOCK app. Try using a YouTube to mp3
Converter app to rip the tune.
OK, so now you know
what song you want to work with. Use the editing app to shorten
it to the time allotted - NO MORE THAN 30 SECONDS. Save the file
with a descriptive like TONE_Good_Morning_15seconds as a AAC
(MP4). (I created a holding folder for these tones in progress.
I will add them to iTunes soon).
This might be a great
time for you to create a lot on new tones. Besides what songs
you already have, and all the stuff on YouTube, there's all the
freebie CDs at the library.
Repeat all the steps to
select a musical phrase no longer than 30 seconds. Name it
TONE_Blahbla_Bloa_29seconds.
I personally now have
about 50 tones. Some are person specific in that it will be used
as a phone ringtone. Others are for alerts on special apps that
I want to monitor.
I open iTunes and use
Automatically Add all of them to iTunes. In viewing my music
library by 'DATE ADDED' - well, son of a gun - there they are.
Test them to see how they sound. If they pass the next step is
to get them into that playlist in iTunes named "RingTones" -
remember that? Cool.
Once entered, you have
to sync your iPhone (or iPad, or iPod) to iTunes. Once this is
done, all you ever have to do is choose a music file as your
ring tone - or any other tone for that matter. It'll be there
are free and everything,
