Our Safenetting has been reporting on the use of Microsoft, Google and Amazon as "safe havens" to cyber criminals for close to two years.
We pointed out Google's refusal to participate as far back as 2011. We noted when Amazon came out with cloud hosting that their Amazonaws.com was being used as launch pads for malware attacks -- it still is today.

* Insights 5.1 -- Unparalleled Knowledge Mining for macOS Sierra
We don't hear much about 'data mining' these days -- it seems to have been replaced by 'knowledge mining' -- amazing? Insights 5.1 for macOS Sierra is a critically acclaimed application that implements original self-organizing modeling based on the Group Method of Data Handling or GMDH for classification, diagnosis and forecasting problems of complex nature for decision support. This could be an important asset in your software toolbox!

* Free Mac Backup Software
It has been said that backup software should work independently of the user. Otherwise it won't happen on a regular enough basis.

* Malicious link that freezes iOS devices
9To5Mac reported that "Every so often, a weird bug related to iOS will emerge that causes some sort of temporary misbehaving for users affected by it. For instance, nearly two years ago the infamous "effective power" bug took the internet by storm, and we've seen various other similar issues since then.
"Now, it has been discovered that playing a certain .mp4 video in Safari on any iOS device will cause the device to slow to a crawl and eventually freeze altogether..."

* A thousand articles a year? Really?
Yup ... I mentioned that I wasn't sure anyone was reading the InfoManager, and the comments were snide jokes. Don't you hate it when people just comment with jokes and attempts at funny when you post a straight item or question? But it's characteristic of the social media mentality -- funny or snide responses make the person feel important or superior. But seriously folks : who reads the infomanager?
In 2006, ten years ago, the mailing list had just over 60,000 subscribers. Now there are less than 10,000. We used to get over a quarter-million visits to the web site each month -- today, we seldom top 6,000. Our Facebook following is literally an embarrassment.
When Don Rittner and I built the MNS disks, and organized user groups into AOL back in 1988, we had 1,542 registered user groups. Later, when I was appointed to the UGAB (User Group Advisory Board) Apple had close to 2,000 addresses. (Some commercial or industry groups) Where did they all go? Did the internet eliminate the need for all but the hard-core user groups?
I realize Google killed tens of thousands of visitors when the site was hacked and taken offline for a week. You can never make up that traffic loss because Google penalizes you if you get hacked.
But still ... makes one wonder -- are user groups still relevant? Has UGNN outlived its usefulness?
