Report about AUG Futures
by Tom Piper, Coordinator
This Apple World User Group University online gathering of Apple user group
leaders was held at 5:00pm CT, on February 21, 2022, via Zoom. We had 42
participants for the topic of “AUG Futures: Evolve/Combine/Close?”. The
80-minute video can be viewed at: https://youtu.be/R-rNXiYel3o
<https://youtu.be/R-rNXiYel3o> (unlisted on YouTube).
This session opened with my welcome (particularly to new registrants), plus a
quick review of the meeting protocols, and an invitation to submit user group
Product Review web links. Doug Smith, Chair of the Apple User Group Advisory
Board (AUGAB) provided backup support during the call.
Eckart Goette of Naples MacFriends Users Group Worldwide made a presentation
about combining and adding to their group with a 5-slide presentation
describing their Zoom-only advantages and joining opportunities. George Rubin
also talked about their weekly Wednesday and Saturday educational sessions.
This was followed by questions and experiences by a number of other
participants.
This was followed by Steve Walsh of The Oregon MacPioneers User Group made a
presentation about his observations and experiences about the evolution of his
group with a 16-slide presentation. Additional questions were asked,
experiences shared and suggestions made by other user group leaders. Particular
concern was raised about getting younger members (they instead often use TikTok
and YouTube provide answers) and finding topics of interest to both female and
male members.

Ideas about future topics were discussed including a potential topic rating
system for presentations, areas of gender interest (men from Mars, women from
Venus), posting topics for all to view, newsletters and blogs, and physical
photos to digital (Digitizing Photos). The topic for April will be “Don’t Carry
the Burden Alone!” by Nicholas Pyers, AppleUsers.org <http://appleusers.org/>).
Other topics suggested for future meetings included converting physical photos
to digital (Digitizing Photos). The topic selected for our next meeting will be
“AUG Media Resources”.
The next meeting is tentatively scheduled for March 21, 2022, at 5:00pm Central
Time. Current AWUGU registrants will receive an invitation to all future
meetings. To become a participant, any interested Apple User Group leader must
first register with the AWUGU Coordinator by emailing their name, location, and
user group name and web link to email@hidden <mailto:email@hidden>.
Registration must be received by March 19 in order to receive a Zoom Meeting
invitation (a download of the free Zoom app in advance is also necessary, and
an update will be important for existing users).
