You're right; I assumed that red and missing "link" indicated that the workflow wouldn't work.

Thanks for your help!

Ran into another quirk:

The following workflow doesn't work when I select a file (doesn't have to be PDF) in my home directory (/tmp works fine):

1. Ask for finder items
2. Open Finder Items

While the following works:

1. Ask for finder items
2. Open Images in Preview

My guess it's a FileVault issue. I remember having problems with some applescripts because of it.

(and sorry that I forgot to turn of my s/mime signature. I wrongly assumed that the mailing list would strip it)

I have an automator flow that looks like this:

2. Combine PDF pages

I expect there to be a step 3, something like "Save PDF File", but I can't seem to figure out how to do it. In fact, I can't figure out how to do anything useful with the results of #2 (Print, Attach, etc.)

It took me a while, but I found out that the combined pdf is placed in the /tmp directory, which is what I'm using as a workaround.

The "Combine PDF Pages" action outputs a reference to the newly created PDF file. So, you can add actions after the "Combine PDF Pages" action to process the new PDF. For example, you could use the "Move Finder Items" action to move the new PDF to the desktop (NOTE: Automator will display the mismatched output/input values in red, but it still should work in this case). Then, you could use the "Rename Finder Items" action to rename the file on the desktop. You could also use the "New Mail Message" action to create a new message in Mail, with the new PDF as an attachment.

Hope this helps.
