BTW, do you know if there exists and Applescript command
equivalent for the "Create Archive" automator action?
The command-line program 'zip' can make them. See http://
developer.apple.com/technotes/tn2002/tn2065.html for information
on the 'do shell script' command in Applescript. From a Terminal
window, type 'man zip' to get a manual page on zip.
For some definition of "make", yes -- /usr/bin/zip doesn't preserve
resource forks or Mac meta-data. (A prerelease version of "Create
Archive" used zip, and we had to fix it.) If you want specifically
a StuffIt archive, you'll need to script StuffIt, which is
certainly possible. If you don't care about the precise archive
format, check out ditto(1) or pax(1).
Chris, thanks for the information.
Is there a web page or some other resource that helps old-school unix
people like me know what to rethink in light of OS X's file system?
Mike
