It's busted. (And strictly speaking, it's the Run Shell Script action, not the Automator application, that's busted.) Using "quoted form" is not the correct solution, but you grasp the problem correctly.

Chris, thanks for the confirmation. If quoted form is incorrect, what do you recommend as a workaround for now?
