Problem using "run shell script" action

I just tried making my first Automator workflow, and wanted to use it to just run a bash shell command. So, I tried using the "run shell script" action: but whenever I try to pull the action into the workflow area, NOTHING shows up (no window, no nothing: at most a blank space if there is another action after it).

None of the other actions that I've played with have behaved in this manner, and I'm stumped. Any ideas? BTW: I'm running Tiger 10.4.6.
