Hi,
I'm a retired systems and applications programer that hasn't programed
in about 7 years. I thought that it might be a nice hobby to create
some Automator scripts for myself, and if that goes well create some
actions using Applescript that I could post as Freeware.
I tried this question on the Automator forum, but I guess I need to go
up the expertise chain a notch or two.
Simple task:
use time machine to back up my wife's PC Tbird mail, and Documents.
The PC is lightly used.
Couldn't find a way to have shared folders from PC backed up by Time
machine, so
development plan is:
Schedule a time in iCal to run an Automator plugin that will copy the
two directory trees to my imac boot disk once a day, Then, let Time
machine do it's normal thing.
Most of my problems are part of the learning curve, and I can work
around, but here is the big problem. I can't run the plugin
unattended because it insists on asking for a user/password. I notice
that finder can figure out to use "guest" without asking, but my
plugin can't figure it out. I would think that there is a way of just
sending the "Guest" as a parameter attached to the Get Specified
Servers string.
Like: smb://portapoodle/MTbird/"Guest" but I tried a bunch of strings
that didn't work.
