I'm fairly sure the problem is that Filter iCal Items isn't returning
anything when run in an applet. You can verify this by inserting a
'New TextEdit Document' action after it in the workflow, saving it as
an application, and running it. The ensuing document is blank.
The only recommendation I have is to reconsider whether you need to
use the Filter iCal Items action. Can you do what you need to do
using just the Find iCal Items action? If not, maybe a Run
AppleScript action will work instead.

I've been trying to use Automator to create an application that I
can run via cron to email me a daily summary of my upcoming calendar
appointments. The workflow I created (Find Events in iCal->Filter
Events->Event Summary->New Mail Message->Send Outgoing) works fine,
doing just what I want. When I save it as an application and then
execute it, it always sends me an empty email. The only messages I
see in the system log seem irrelevant and are identical whether the
workflow or application is run. How can I debug and, even better,
does anyone have a theory as to what could be going wrong with the
application?
