every minute (or five, or ten...) without involving Automator.
And without Automator you can specify a rule to play a sound or a song :
go to preferences/rules
add a rule with your criteria (from, to, object...)
then
do following operation : you can choose move, delete...applescript....
or play a sound
in the right menu choose the sound or song to play or add a new one
the sound or song ( tested with a mp3) should be in your library/sounds
may be you can put just an alias, i didn't tested.

I have it set to check for the email then OPEN and plays Itunes
play itunes song
my problem is I need the automator to run the mail check everything
3 min or so
Can anybody here help me
