Surely that should be ~/ (or just $HOME), no?
(Unless this is expected to run on Windows... :-)
Anyway, it might be useful to see what you're trying that isn't working, because most scripts should just be able to use ~/ or $HOME without a problem. If that isn't working for you, there are other ways to figure this out, but they get more complicated quickly, so it would be useful to be clear that that's actually the issue before pasting in sample code showing how to figure this out.
