Gabriele,
got the problem you are having.
I don't have the time out problem but I feel Automator is not the best app for your particular problem.
I haven't check scripting via GUI, but you may try to use sikuli.
sikuli is made exactly for what you want.
My trials with Automator have been disappointing, it always click the wrong menu item.
Now mind you, sikuli is better for that but not 100% right.
