Automator crashing on launch of a workflow

Hello folks
I have a workflow with 62 actions. These are mainly search and replace actions which I use to edit Word documents. I use MS Word 12.3.3 running on Mac OS 10.6.8.
When I double click the icon on my desktop for the workflow, Automator freezes and I have to force quit.
Does anyone know if this behavior is common in Automator? Or if there is a limit to the number of actions that a single work flow can handle?
