Randy,
the best suggestions spend few hours (may be less) trying to build and action or application in Automator.
To change the names, it should be very simple.
The bulk of it is done by others.
To get you started, create a new app (say, create whatever you want) select the Finder on the Action, and then rename finder items.
Its all your from there.
It should be fast. Once you get it you will be addicted to it.
Such a convenient tool ….
