This is really great news!
How long will it take for us who don't have access to developers seeds of
Tiger to try it out?

Hi james,
From a previous post to the list:

This API will be available in Tiger. If you have access to a developer
seed
of Tiger, you can start using it now. It is available in the form of an
IOBluetoothDeviceInquiry object. The relevant file should be here:
/System/Library/Frameworks/IOBluetooth.framework/Headers/objc/
IOBluetoothDeviceInquiry.h
Hopefully it will meet your needs.

I tried to send this earlier, but I think it misfired. I'll try again
Looking through the archive, it was mentioned that while the device
discovery apis are not exposed, it is possible to discover the unique
address for the nearby devices with what is available now. I work on a
project that provides a positioning service from wireless beacons
(http://placelab.org). I've been asked to build a bluetooth device
spotter for the macintosh and until Tiger and the full inquiry api
becomes available it seems I will need to content myself with getting
only the unique device address. Since all the placelab software needs
to work is the unique address, I will be able to use just this for now.
Could somebody please point me to the appropriate documentation or
function to get the unique address of nearby devices on panther?
Thanks,
James
