Hmm. Would http://www.javabluetooth.org/ not work ? It's 100% Java and apparently uses the serial API. I haven't tried it personally but it may work for you, although it does require that the OS register the dongle as a UART.

I hope that one day, Apple (or someone else) will write a JSR-82 version working for Mac, because the whole device community follows Java and not Obj-C !!! And with the boom of Ubiquitous devices that is on the way, this fact will become even more important !
