Pairing with a specific device?

I checked the archives and didn't see an answer to my question...

I have a Bluetooth device in my favorites list that is not paired with my Mac. I can fetch its IOBluetoothDevice object easily enough using the IOBluetoothDeviceSelectorController class, but then how do I pair with the unpaired device?

I see there's an IOBluetoothPairingController class that's in the IOBluetoothUI framework, but from my testing it appears to be just a generic pairing class with no method of specifying the exact IOBluetoothDevice I want to make paired. So how do I pair with that specific device?
