Ross,
We have found that sometimes there seems to be a damon causing this problem.
Not sure if this is the problem you have, but it may help.

Quite a few of the users of my modem scripts report that their
Bluetooth serial port is busy ("Failed to open
/dev/cu.Bluetooth-Modem: Device busy") when they try to dial. I then
have to get them to hunt about for the application that 'owns' the
port, and it is sometimes something really obscure (e.g. fax software
that scans every serial port). What simple steps can I use to find
the app that has grabbed the port, using just the tools that come with
a standard MacOS installation?
Kia ora,
Ross
