Welcome to the world of Macintosh!
The best place to get started is in this folder:
/Developer/Examples/Bluetooth/
It has some sample apps that show simple RFCOMM communication, as well as
how to do service browsing, OBEX transfers, etc. There is no example on how
to perform a device inquiry yet, but you can do that in Mac OS X 10.4 (only
in the cocoa language, however, as some of the C APIs went AWOL in the 10.4
release). We encourage all development be done in Cocoa, if possible.
