Why is Apple creating (several) serial ports for each DUN and SPP service of
a device since Apple Bluetooth software 1.7? You even create a new serial
port bound to the SPP of a headset.
Personally I liked the solution of Bluetooth software 1.0 and 1.1 where you
selected the device bound to the Bluetooth-modem in the menu bar. It gets
more and more to a chaos state...
Because I have a popup menu which lists all serial ports (POSIX) and
Bluetooth devices, now I have to filter with the help of the IOKit all.
Traditionally serial ports had been only created by experienced users which
was no user experience issue then.
I do not use the Bluetooth UI API because of several reason:
- requires at least v10.3.0 for Carbon access
- device filtering is difficult (possible at all?) in the C API
- service selection UI is horrible because all devices and services are
listed. The ones which do not match are grey. Nevertheless the user has to
search all devices to find that single non-grey service entry.
