Which local Bluetooth device?

I understand that the Apple Bluetooth API only supports one Bluetooth radio on the host. What I'm wondering is if there is any way to determine which one it is using, if more than one is available. Specifically, if my iMac has an internal Class 2 radio, and I plug in an external Class 1 USB dongle, which will the API use? And if it can use the external one, when does it switch?

I have trawled about through the documentation and the API and can find nothing touching on these issues... thanks for any assistance...
