It's been talked about in this mailing list and on Apple's official forum. I have also opened a bugreport and TRI ticket.

Is this issue somewhere documented?
Cheers,
Michael.

Hello Mark,
after some time, I today received the dongle you are recommending in the link.
I'm using an iMac 27-inch, Mid 2011, but after entering the nvram command, nothing changed in the system settings.
There is still the broadcom one listed.
Has anyone else tried this dongle on an iMac?
Thank you in advance,
Michael.

friends,
Here is a dongle that works great with the simulator:
It uses the CSR chip. I've tested lots of dongles, and I've only gotten those with CSR chips to work. This dongle works great on 2010 MBP, and also the latest MacMini..
Be sure to set the nvram setting as defined in the iOS technical note, and do a reboot:
Best,
-Mark

FWIW, the BlueGiga BLED112 dongle and the one that comes with the TI CC2540DK-MINI kit don't work with the simulator either (even with the tech note changes). The simulator won't even turn on Bluetooth with any of these plugged in.
Be interested in finding one that works with a mid-2011 MBPro.

I have tried the iOgear GBU521 with some changes to the kext file with out any real success. While the simulator recognizes the device as powered on, it does not connect. So someone much have one that works???
