BLE BER/PER and power

I'm sure someone on this list can help me answer this question: Does an increase in PER/BER rates increase my Bluetooth LE power?

I think I have read that a packet will continue to be retransmitted until it is acknowledged (via the NESN being different from the SN)? I'm assuming, if this is the case, packet errors will translate to turning the radio being on more frequently [using more power] than in the case of no packet errors.

If anyone can confirm, it will save me time doing more reading and research.

Thanks,
