If you're implementing a service that is already registered/adopted by the SIG (like heart rate or bp) you use the 16-bit uuid and follow the spec for that service.

To write your own service you generate uuids yourself[1] and define your own characteristics and their meanings

There are a lot of devices out there that hijack 16bit standard UUIDs (e.g. Heart Rate, Blood Pressure) to get around this. Is this something Apple would allow or tolerate?
