I've seen the same issue and one other developer also reported it recently. I have seen it happen only if I stressed the CB central with scan-connect cycles.
I used a watchdog timer (just as Sam suggested) to circumvent this glitch. It's probably worth a bug report but I don't have enough data to describe how to reproduce it.

Hi,

there is no timeout on connect request. So, as you propose you need to use something like a timer to manage this.
