You are absolutely correct in your explanation for why myString is not
deallocated. In my haste to answer and in my frustration with answering
this question hundreds of times, I did not do you the justice of fully
understanding your question before answering. I am sorry.

Separately, I have been chastised for not including a link to TFM when I
write RTFM.
Besides reading the hundreds of times this question has been answered in
this forum, I suggest the following:
When anyone has a question about Cocoa, type some key words into google.
