So the question is, how important is portability? I like Cocoa. I REALLY like Obj-C. I love the Mac platform. I love the free software. Yeah, portability is a bitch, but one has to consider HOW and WHY we got Cocoa to begin with. Those who do not learn from History are doomed to repeat it. I personally think Jobs learned from NeXT.

AFAIK Steve Jobs is addicted to hardware. He likes nice boxes (iMac, iBook,
NeXTCube, original Mac) and likes to design computer producing factories.
So I think he was pretty unhappy with NeXT going Software-only.

I think as long as Apple is doing well and Steve Jobs is the CEO, it just won't happen.

No, I don't know him personally, I just read a book about him.
