It has already been suggested and struck down.
So it could be under a proprietary licence (a la Sun) that has
viewable source. That still allows people to work with the source,
submit patches and get their own work done without the licensing
problems.
see, EOF has value... and as a result, Apple doesn't want to give
others (competitors) access to that value.
it's from Apple, or not at all...
Which is why it's not at all.
That, for me, was another Open Source Epiphany at WWDC. Initially,
open source appealed to me because no one but you could cancel your
pet project (even so, it's more politic to turn it over to someone if
you lose interest).
But open source also means that companies can't orphan your favorite tools.
Companies like Apple don't understand why this is such an issue. If
they really got it, we'd see EOF/Cocoa(ObjC).
I told Heather once that I'd be happy to work on the project and the
offer still stands.
