That's what they said they were going to do...
That's not what happened...
IMHO, the truth is Apple has done a very good job on managing
backwards compatibility, while moving forward. Examples
include 680x0->PPC transition and the classic environment
for MacOS X. At the same time the move has been tougher for
those people who came from OpenStep.
Actually, it's not just former OpenStep users that have the problems
-- it's anyone who got on board back on OSX Server 1.x who was left
out in the cold on this.
I never used OpenStep, but I still have many thousands of lines of
obsolete desktop EOF code now...it's hardly 3 years old.
My advice: Beware of the API's you tie yourself (and any projects
you have to maintain) to!
