CoreFoundation. How was this conclusion arrived at? Yes, if you sample
I don't think I have a fetish to blame CoreFoundation. When the frameworks
get much slower any change will be suspect, and CoreFoundation is the only
change we on the outside can see. You have much deeper inside knowledge and
are likely to be more accurate when diagnosing the problem. You can test.
We can only speculate.
However, Foundation applications make excellent contrasting benchmarks to
Photoshop and may be an embarrassment for Apple which adds one more reason
why Apple's support for Cocoa may be lackluster. I am happy that Cocoa
still exists even though its utility to _ME_ has been greatly diminished by
the loss of cross platform support. Cocoa/Foundation may be getting a bad
reputation among all those new adopters due to its current performance
problems even if the problems are actually with Mac OS-X or Mach 3 or low
memory throughput or whatever.
Remind me, who is the customer for Cocoa ? How well does Cocoa solve that
customer's problems ?
Actually, I suspect I would really like Chris Kane's job in another life,
and I appreciate him sharing his insights with us. I have tremendous
admiration for his work. I don't think I will ever work for Apple for lots
of reasons...
