Airport hardware access?

Hey, I want to write a small utility that effectively mimics the
behavior of the "Optimize placement" window - finds all airport clients
connected to a given base station and then show the signal strengths and
noise, and I want to add a few more features here and there. I have to
watch over a few busy airport networks and It would be nice if I could
do these things... I started looking for documentation on accessing
Airport information, but I couldnt find any... Is this something Apple
doesn't want us to even begin mucking with, or is there documentation
out there that will let us gather information from the base station /
airport card?

Thanks
Mike
