Well, kind of. Java creators copied the idea of the interfaces from ObjC protocols, but in the hurry they forgotten to put the class methods as part of the interface. Oh, yes, and because they were so busy to produce buzzwords, they overseen the fact that ObjC allows informal protocols too (in reality categories with a special purpose) - very handy technique to define delegation. But in general, they serve the same purpose.
