Since that isn't an supported thing to do as far as I can tell from reading the Aqua HI Guidelines, I wouldn't think that you can avoid artifacts like that. What the frameworks should do though, is to prevent you from displaying more then one sheet - since it doesn't work properly if nothing else.

There has been discussions on the lists before on cases where you feel that you need a second sheet, I don't recall what they summed up to as the answer, but I belive it was something called "accessor views"? ie. finding some other way to give your users the functionality you need the second sheet for in the first sheet, or through some other means. Perhaps you can find something in the list archives here or over at Omni.
