adding MessageText in Open/Save Panel

How does one add a short message to the Open and Save document sheet panel
to offer the user some useful suggestion and hints without overriding the
functions NSOpenPanel class in a Document-based application? Sort of like
what Navigation Manager used to do for us in OS9? Thanks.
