An 8 letter alphanumeric password? Quite a while. Also, G5/2GHz machines don't exist (yet).

They exist (maybe only a single one), they just don't get sold.

And a 4 letter alphanumeric password takes one week worst case (zzzz) on my G3/300. Of course, the algorithm is exponential.

On a quantum computer those hashes are just as secure as the plaintext password.

But, you see, quantum computers don't exist (yet).

It's only a matter of time.
