This is similar to Perl's "Tied" variables. It's pretty cool to play
with, and darn handy.

This sort of thing worries me. It's not obvious what's going on. I'll
agree that tied variables in Perl are attractive, and even useful, but
it obfuscates the code. This can only lead to more bad code.
I don't like code that 'just happens' - this includes C++ constructors
and destructors, Java garbage collection, etc. It makes the programmer
lazy, and can lead to programmers who simply don't understand what's
going on.
Programming is not a task for idiots. It requires thought and
understanding. It's a serious undertaking.
But then I started with 6502 assembly, so WTF do I know?
