Well, RTFM of inetd. You can't launch telnetd for yourself, inetd does
it for you. Just try to connect to port 25. And if it still doesn't
work, you should check /etc/inetd.conf.
Note: telnet is INSECURE as hell. It's like posting the server's IP and
your username and password to some public web board. No sane sysadmin
uses it nowadays.
