Please be realistic, what you are suggesting is an uncommon scenario.
Let's look at this for example:
Dad is working on the PC and gets up to go to the bathroom. Since he
is connected to the internet kiddie decides he'll quickly check his
email while Dad is relieving himself. Kiddie can quickly switch over
to his account, check his email and switch back before Dad even flushes
the toilet! Now that is cool and very usable. I think that it would
be very good for myself if I could have some batch processes running in
the background while my kids and wife check their email. Sure, it
extends the period of time required for running the batch process, but
it doesn't tie up the whole computer just because my user account is
doing something. I personally would love this feature and think that
it could become an invaluable asset to the Family Computer.
I could come up with at least a dozen scenarios like this one if
necessary.
When you mean batch, do you mean batch? Like a daemon?
Can't you do that with OS X? Let me try it . . .
started up setiathome,
logged out,
logged back in,
it's still running.
Seems to work OK.
Maybe since this is a Cocoa list, you're wondering how to get
a gui app to do this too? That's an interesting question, I guess.
