After the hoo-ha from Apple's & nVidia's marketing machines on the
premier of the GeForce3 on the Mac, and with MacOSX being released just
recently, I thought great, I'll go out and buy one and develop some
software on MacOS.
Thats dandy, until I get a (brand new G4/GeForce3) home to try out, and
realize that I've just wasted a decent whack of money (at this stage)
because hey, none of the new features of the GeForce3 are supported
under MacOSX. So I put off my plans for a month or so.
Tonight I thought I'd check the state of OS 9.1 and OpenGL with this
card. I call glGetString(GL_EXTENSIONS) and see:
GL_ARB_multitexture GL_EXT_compiled_vertex_array GL_EXT_texture_env_add
GL_ARB_transpose_matrix GL_ARB_texture_env_add GL_EXT_abgr GL_EXT_bgra
GL_EXT_texture_env_combine GL_EXT_texture_lod_bias
GL_NV_texgen_reflection GL_SGIS_texture_edge_clamp
Is it just me, or does anyone else feel cheated that, well heck, not
even register combiners are supported on the Mac yet?
When Apple and nVidia, will it be worth me looking at this platform
again?
