Sorry Bernard - you are not getting a whole lot of good responses to this question really because a lot of us who have been on here for a few months are tired of debating this point. There are plenty of benefits to both languages. The great part is you can develop great Cocoa apps with either one. Just try to look through the online list archives - it usually comes up at least once a month - most recently was about a week before you asked - which blended over into the java list as well. There are a lot of good points for both sides.

Unfortunately it also includes a lot of unintelligent comments like the ones below. You just have to filter those out.

Hi

I was reading in the Java Dev List about Cocoa-Java development. Some people where very harsh on Java, while others on Obj-C. I don't know Obj-C (I have 2 years experience in Java) but I like to know the differences so I can make a balanced decision about the primary language I am going to use for OS X dev.

Some people see this as religion so there's no right answer.
I'll be more blunt:

Java has its place but at best it is not a complete solution
for the desktop. At worst, it simply doesn't make sense on
the desktop.

Tons of money has been wasted or lost trying to write
significant desktop apps in Java.

The choice is yours.
