Scott,

Many developers (ex-NeXT mostly) understand what you are trying to say ... and please be not ashamed of not knowing what is UML ;-) I have Select OMT and Rose certifications, but this helped me only to win new clients - never to bring projects to a successful end. My best friends are still the pen, a lot of paper, and tons of A6 colored cards.... and I'm not missing a design tool, not a single bit of it. It saves me so much time not to use such a tool!
