Uh, he asked about *editing* PDF files, not creating them.

Forget about editing PDF - it's a display language, not a modelling language. After 10 years of development, even Acrobat can't edit PDF [much].

As a friend once said, "PDF is the black hole of file formats - you can convert to PDF, but you can't convert back...."
